Speaker bios:
Tim Galloway, Deputy Director Building Safety Programme, HSE
Tim joined the HSE in 1991 as a trainee inspector. After completing a 3 year training programme, Tim went on to deal with a variety of industries, including broadcasting, health services, renewable energy, transport, domestic gas, fairgrounds and product safety. After a spell managing operational teams covering major accident hazard industries, he spent five and a half years leading HSE’s operational work in the southern third of Great Britain. He joined the HSE Building Safety Programme in February 2020.
Lorna Stimpson, Chief Executive, LABC
Lorna’s career in Public Service Building Control spans over 30 years, holding roles from building control surveyor up to senior managerial positions. Lorna joined LABC in 2008 as Business Development Director, then advancing to Deputy Managing Director in 2015 and Chief Executive in 2019.
As LABC’s Chief Executive, Lorna leads the implementation of LABC’s strategic programmes on quality, standards, competencies and learning - including their accredited qualifications and informal continuous professional development programmes.
Lorna works with MHCLG, HSE, National Fire Chiefs Council and the Local Government Association as a member of the Joint Regulators’ Group defining, piloting and testing the new regulatory approaches outlined in Dame Judith’s Final Report. She sits on the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) and the newly formed Interim Industry Competence Committee (IICC). Lorna is a Board Director of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), sits on the BSI technical committee for competence in the built environment and other professional committees all focussed on improving standards and outcomes in the construction industry.
Dan Daly, Head of PPRU, NFCC
Dan heads up the newly formed NFCC Protection Policy and Reform Unit (PPRU). Funded by the Home Office and MHCLG the PPRU was established by NFCC to provide the link between FRSs and Government by representing the collective views and expert technical advice of FRSs
Prior to taking on this role Dan was Assistant Commissioner with London Fire Brigade. Dan has 32 years’ service with LFB, 25 years in operational roles and 7 years non-operational. As well as Assistant Commissioner for Fire Safety (Regulatory and Community), Dan has also undertaken a number of other roles including Head of Operational Risk within the Strategy and Performance Department.
In his current role Dan is a member of the Joint Regulators Group and The Fire Protection Board.
