The BSCF is a Community Interest Company that provides independence and impartiality when assessing and validating the competence of the building control profession.
THE VALIDATION PROCESS
- STEP 1 - All candidates will be required to complete an application form detailing their experience relevant to the scope of certification sought. Please complete the application form and return this to certification@thebscf.org
- STEP 2 - The BSCF will review all applications
- STEP 3 - The BSCF will confirm approval of the application via email with a link to book onto your chosen assessment location. The cost of validation assessment is £600+VAT
- STEP 4 - Candidates sit the assessment.
- STEP 5 - Results will be published 12 weeks after the assessment date. Results provided will be PASS/REFERRED
All successful candidates will receive a certificate and an ID card showing that they have passed the validation assessment. Bi-annual renewal of ID cards will be subject to candidates submitting sufficient evidence during the biennial surveillance.

Step 1 - Complete the following application form - CIOB Application Form - Level 6 Managing Public Service Building Control
Step 2 - The tutor will review and a coordinator will confirm course suitability
Step 3 - Book onto the course
We worked with accreditation bodies to develop a unique OFQUAL Level 6 Certificate in Managing Public Service Building Control. It's aimed at those working in a local authority building control team who have some level of managerial responsibility for the building control service, this could be that you are a manager or that you are on a development pathway to take on more managerial responsibilities. This programme is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute, as part of this recognition LABC learners receive 12 months membership with CMI, including access to Management Direct (e-learning platform), Management Diagnostic Tool and all membership benefits. It also includes a CMI certificate upon completion of the programme and Foundation Chartered Manager post-nominals upon completion.

This course will give an overview of the building regulation requirements that building professionals need a solid understanding of.
It will look at the application of fire safety principles to building work and the various approaches to demonstrate compliance. It will also discuss principles that can be used to vary guidance but maintain the necessary performance standard.
CPD: This course counts for 3.5 hours CPD
Cost: £80+VAT per delegate (Please note, the price increases from 1st July 2025 to £85+VAT per delegate).
Platform: This course will be held via Zoom and will run for 4 hours including time for breaks.

On completion of the course you will have a good general understanding of the following:
• Fire safety requirements of building regulations for different types of building work.
• Functional requirements.
• Application of Regulation 7(2) to 7(4) to a relevant building (residential/institutional
buildings above 18m in height).

• Use of BS 9999.

• Regulation 38.
